Resetter Settings![]()
Remember Desktop Icon Positions-Desktop Resetter will remember and reset the icons positions on the desktop. Remember Windows-Desktop Resetter will remember and reset window positions and sizes. This also applies to MacOS 8 and higher's popup windows. This option is normally off. Be sure to turn this on if you want windows to be remembered as well. Remember Application Switcher (OS 8.5 and higher) - Desktop Resetter will remember and reset the position of the Application Switcher. Warn Before Remembering - Desktop Resetter will show a confirmation dialog when you press remember asking if the layout is okay. This is useful if you tend to press remember when you actually meant to 'Reset'. Launch
at System Startup
- An alias to Desktop Resetter will be placed in the Startup Items of
the Mac. This will cause the program to launch when the Mac starts up.
If you use Auto Reset (explained later), you can have it reset your desktop
automatically at startup without ever showing any dialog. Automate - Good for Power Users Auto Remember Desktop - You can specify a key combination (or no keys at all) to hold at Desktop Resetter's startup time, and the program will Remember the desktop without displaying any dialog. It will then instantly quit. This option speeds things up and is intended for power users. Please note, if you set Desktop Resetter to perform the operation without holding any keys, you can get back to the program's main screen by holding the command (the Apple) key at startup. Auto

Reset Desktop & Windows
- Desktop Resetter normally resets everything when the 'Reset' function
is carried out. Sometimes if you have many popup windows, this can take
extra time even if they really didn't need to be reset. With this option,
you can have the program only reset the positions of popup windows by
holding down this key combination while 'Resetting'. The same applies
during startup. If you hold down the specified combination when launching
the program, it will reset everything including the popup windows. Good
for quick access to the program's features without requiring you to press
buttons. This option is normally off, but it is recommended that you turn
it on if you don't want to wait for the popups every time. Extras - Also good for Power Users Remember by Name - You can specify how icons are remembered here. The normal and most compatible method is by name. This works well, but if you change the name of your remembered icon, then it will not be reset. Remember by Alias - Icons remembered by alias work the best. If the name of the icon changes, it will still be reset. If another icon with the same name is on the desktop, Desktop Resetter won't get confused. On some machines, this method won't remember special icons (like PCMCIA cards of laptops). Most users shouldn't have a problem using this method. Restore View Options after Reset - This feature is mainly for OS 9 users. In OS 9, it is impossible for Desktop Resetter to reset icons if the grid is on. Therefore, the program has to turn off the grid in order to reset your icons. If you prefer, you can have the grid turned back on automatically. Some users report that the icons get re-jumbled when the grid is reapplied. If you have this problem, simply leave this option off. There is nothing I can do about this, it is a bug with OS 9. |
